My name is Christopher and I am a type 1 diabetic living in Barbados. I was diagnosed at age 6 in 1993 and with good management I have been healthy and complication free to date. As with most persons with type 1 diabetes, I have had my ups and downs, daily struggles and issues. However, I intend to live my life to the fullest and I will not let diabetes get in my way.
Although I have been managing type 1 diabetes for over 23 years, I am by no means an expert. I continue to learn about diabetes and my body each day. In my attempt to live a long, healthy and fulfilling life, I have done tons of research and tested several theories and concepts. These theories include diets, training methods, supplements, medications and many other things.
I have come into contact with many persons with diabetes both type 1 and type 2. I have realized that a lot of them do not fully understand the disease they are living with. Many diabetics believe that when they are diagnosed that it is a death sentence. They lament about what they can no longer eat, they become terrified about the complications that can occur and they throw in the towel. They give up on themselves and on the amazing life that they can still have.
I truly believe that knowledge is power and it is an important weapon when fighting diabetes. Knowing as much as possible about the disease will put you at better odds if you effectively apply this knowledge. The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences and what I have learned over the years, hoping that it will provide useful information and help to someone in some way.
